British WW1 Lockwood Brothers billhook machete; large original 1918-dated Sheffield-made military issue; great overall condition, considering the age.
Original World War 1 era British Billhook Machete issued to the British and Commonwealth forces during the war. This exact type is illustrated on page 107 of the excellent reference book BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES by Ron Flook (see the book’s pages scans attached). This specimen was manufactured by Lockwood Brothers in Sheffield, England. The machete is in scarce practically unused condition with about 80% of the original black finish remaining; the edge is razor-sharp, an-extra thick “bill” tip is intact. Original hardwood handle is in excellent condition; no chips or cracks; one side is stamped with the British “broad arrow” and a star arsenal acceptance and inspection stamps. This machete is about 16-1/4″ / 41.2 cm overall; the blade is about 10-3/4″ / 27.3 cm long. The blade is sharply stamped LOCKWOOD BROTHERS / SHEFFIELD and the manufacture date 1918 on the side; original black blade finish is mostly intact; scarce this nice.
This original British WW1 Lockwood Brothers billhook machete has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
