Description

Austria 1879 silver 2 Florin – rare Franz Joseph I era “standard issue” strike, one of the smallest mintage years. Cleaned AU; rare in any shape or form nowadays.

Rare non-commemorative “standard issue” strike in scarce Almost Uncirculated condition. “Regular” strike 1879 2 Florin had a tiny mintage of just 73,953 pieces – this is the 2nd smallest mintage year in the series. The same-year commemorative “wedding” 2 Florin issue had a mintage close to half-million. This specimen is an old cleaning, but this 1879 “standard issue” strike is almost impossible to find in any shape or form these days. About 36 mm in diameter, 24.69 grams, an inscription on the rim. The coin is still housed in its original circa 1970th coin flip, so the glare/reflection gets in the way; the coin actually looks much better “in person”.  Not wiped, cleaned, or otherwise messed around with; these are the actual photos.

This rare “standard issue” strike Austria 1879 silver 2 Florin is not a later reproduction or a copy; it is guaranteed to be 100% authentic or your money back. This coin was part of the life-long numismatic collection assembled an American German-born doctor;  it is still in its original circa 1970th-1980th coin flip with the original owner’s hand-written note (looks like the previous owner paid $125 fr this coin back in the days). I’m going to list more coins for the same collection in the next couple of weeks.
