American 1896 Bryan silver So-Called Dollar; toned AU with original light-gray patina; great overall condition.
Very rare anti-Bryan satirical “cartwheel” piece struck in silver by Spaulding & Co. in 1896. The “dollar” shows just how large a “new” dollar would be at 16 to 1 silver to gold ratio. It was struck after William Jennings Bryan’s unsuccessful campaign for the Presidency in 1896. Bryan was advocating switching to a new silver standard; that idea was not very popular at the time, to say the least.
Large medal – 52.8 mm in diameter. This example is rather well-preserved with attractive gray patina, Almost Uncirculated condition. The medal looks much better “in person”, lately this type is very hard to find in any condition. Not cleaned; these are the actual photos.
