Description

WW2 Western model L77 Commando Stiletto American fighting knife with original leather scabbard; the pommel is initialed “LG”. The dagger is in great overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era model L77 Commando Stiletto fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery Co. in Boulder, Colorado. Very attractive blued blade L77 type; comes with original leather scabbard. This fighting stiletto is about 11-1/4” / 28.4 cm overall; the blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17.2 cm. Fullered  blade has been re-sharpened, but not harshly; the tip is intact. No edge nicks or pitting on the blade; some of the original blueing is remaining at the base of the blade. Stacked leather and colored fiber washers handle; steel guard and aluminum pommel. The handle is solid – all parts are tight with zero play. The pommel is owner-initialed L.G.; it is in great shape without the typical dings from hammering-down on rations’ crates and ammo boxes. This exact type is illustrated on page 236 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached).

Original leather scabbard is included. It is in used condition with the obvious signs of field use, but its is still in better than average condition for the type. The leather is soft and supple still; all original rivets are present, the keeper is nice and tight. Overall, this WW2 Western model L77 Commando Stiletto American fighting knife with original leather scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition still. With proper care it will last you another 75 years 😉

This attractive fighting dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot.
