Original WW2 era M3 Fighting Knife/Trench Knife – an early marked blade type manufactured by Utica Cutlery in Utica, New York. This fine M3 comes with its original M8 composition scabbard in excellent condition, still with the leather leg tie attached. Attached is the photo of the US Airborne paratroopers gearing up somewhere in England the day prior to D-day jump. One paratrooper has his trench knife on the hip; two other guys are armed with M3 fighting knifes tied to their legs (original photo is the courtesy of Wikipedia and is not included with the knife).
This M3 is about 11-5/8” / 29.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17.2 cm. The blade has been lightly re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact; no pitting, ege nicks or dings on the spine/pommel – this type is scarce this nice. Stacked grooved leather washers handle; steel guard and hammer-like pommel; all leather washers are tight. The guard is unmarked; the pommel has the standard “flaming bomb” arsenal acceptance stamp. All parts are tight with no play.
Original M8 composition scabbard was manufactured by Beckwith Manufacturing Company. It is marked US M8 / B.M. CO. on the throat; the top plate underside is marked B 1/3 N. The scabbard is in excellent overall condition, considering the age – no cracks on the plastic, all parts are intact and rust-free; the keeper is nice and tight. The webbing is stamped with large numbers; it looks like 720 but it’s hard to tell for sure. Overall, WW2 era M3 Fighting Knife and scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition still; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
This original WW2 Utica M3 Trench Knife / M8 composition scabbard have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos. Spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more American, German, British, Italian, and French fighting knives, as well as some scarce WW2 and WW1 daggers, trench knives and bayonets available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
