Description

WW2 Utica 1943 M3 fighting knife, an early blade-marked and dated specimen, orig Milso M6 leather scabbard included. VERY rare M3/M6 set in great overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW-II era US M3 Trench Knife manufactured by Utica Cutlery – one of the war-time makers of edged weapons for the US government. Utica made 650,000 M3s from March 1943 to August 1944 when the M3 production ended, but only very few early 1943 M3 specimens were blade-marked and dated. This fighting knife is used but it’s in better than average condition for the type. This is VERY hard to find M3 type, especially with the original M6 scabbard included.

This fighter is in very good overall condition, considering the age – leather washers with 8 grooves handle is nice and tight; the iron crossguard and hammer-like pommel are solid with no play. The knife is 11-5/8″ / 29.5 cm overall; the blade is 6-3/4″ / 17.2 cm long. The blade has been sharpened, it is razor-sharp, including the upper edge. The blade  is marked U.S. M3 – U.C. – 1943 on one side. The heavy-duty steel pommel is stamped with the “flaming bomb” US ordinance mark.

This rare M3 comes with the equally-rare US M6 leather scabbard made in early 1943 by Misco. The scabbard is used as well, but it’s in great shape overall, considering the age – all-original stitching and rivets are intact; steel plates are tight and secure; the leather is soft and supple still. The “anti-puncture” steel plates are intact – these were designed to  prevent accidental leg cuts to a wearer during parachute jumps, crouching, etc. There are 8 “staples” on the scabbard’s mouth; all are intact; the throat is stamped US M6 / MILSCO, 1943 / “flaming bomb” US ordinance mark. There is a remnant if the original leather tie-down cord hanging off the lanyard hole; the steel belt hanger is original to the scabbard.  The M6 sheath was costly to produce and did not fare well under the stress of combat. Metal parts were prone to corrosion and leather would rot in contact with seawater. The M6 was produced for just 8 months in 1943; it was quickly replaced by a cheaper and more durable M8 composition scabbard. Finding an original 1943-dated M3/M6 set that survived the war is getting harder and harder every year – don’t miss your chance!

This is a VERY hard to find original early-issue M3/M6 set very desirable set; it is guaranteed original or you money back. This rare and attractive WW2 Utica 1943 M3 fighting knife/Mislco M6 scabbard set has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉
