WW2 Ulster US mountain troops ski knife; early model with green bone handle scales and Phillips screwdriver on bail (Type I); scarce early-war issue in great overall condition, considering the age.
Very rare early WW2 era US Army Mountain and Ski Troops multi-tool knife with jigged green bone handle scale. Manufactured circa 1942-1943 by the long-gone ULSTER KNIFE COMPANY in Elenville, NY. Rare early type with the Phillips screwdriver incorporated into the bail (type I folder). The ski troops required a not-so-common back than Phillips screwdriver for adjusting their ski attachments. The early “ski troops knife” is one of the hardest to find standard-issue American WW2 knives. This type was reportedly used by the troops of the US 10th Mountain Division and the mixed Canadian-American 1st Special Service Force unit. This exact type is illustrated on page 70 of the POCKET KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY book by M. H. Cole – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book’s scans attached).
This Ski Troops knife is used, but it’s still in better than average condition for the type. The largest blade is about 2-1/4” / 5.7 cm long; the tip is intact; the edge is very sharp still; all blades are nice and tight. The tang on the longest blade is stamped ULSTER / KNIFE Co. / U.S.A.; handle “shield” inlay is stamped US. Original green jigged bone handle scales with nickel-silver bolsters; brass liners and pins; all parts are tight and intact. VERY rare these days – today most of the surviving WW-2 era “mountain/ski troops knives” are in private collections & rarely come up for sale. Don’t miss your chance to add this original WW2 Ulster US mountain troops ski knife early model Type I to your collection!
This attractive WW2 Ulster US mountain troops ski knife early model has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
