WW2 American Schrade paratrooper knife, rare early jigged bone handle type in great overall condition, considering the age. Hard to find this nice.

Rare early production swing guard model of the famous WW2 era US Paratrooper Switchblade Knife; manufactured early in the war by SCHRADE CUTLERY. This is an early “large” folder with short-lived jigged bone handle scales with brass pins – one of the hardest to find standard-issue American WW2 knives.  Scarce type;  a later-production, downsized issue that was mass-produced as a “small” model 2 switchblade is illustrated on page 110 of THE COMPLETE BOOK OF U.S. MILITARY POCKET KNIVES published in 2015 by M. H. Cole – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book’s scans attached).

The knife is used, but it is in much better than average condition for this type. The knife is about 5″ / 12.7 cm overall when closed; the blade is about 3-5/8” / 9.3 cm long. The blade has been professionally cleaned and polished; no nicks on the edge; the tip is intact. The blade has a tiny bit of a play when opened, but nothing serious. The edge is razor-sharp still; the spring is nice and tight and works as intended. The blade lock is in perfect working order. The tang is stamped SCHRADE CUT. CO. / WALDEN, N.Y. on one side and U.S. paten numbers on the other. Original jigged bone handle scales are simply beautiful with very attractive “dark amber” toning; one tiny chip near one of the the upper pins is noted for accuracy. Nickel-silver blade  bolsters, swing guard, handle scale pins, blade lock and the lock and push-button. All handle parts are tight with no play. These early Schrade paratroopers’ switchblades are VERY hard to find nowadays. Most of the surviving early model Schrade “paratroopers” are in private collections & rarely come up for sale. Don’t miss your chance to add this rare early WW2 American Schrade paratrooper knife to your collection!

This original WW2 American Schrade paratrooper knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉 I have a few more American, German, British, Italian, and French fighting knives, as well as some scarce WW2 and WW1 daggers, trench knives and bayonets available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
