Description
Scarce early-issue WW2 era USN-designated MK2 fighting knife manufactured by Robeson Cutlery – rare “red spacer” type with the early “screwed-on” extra-thick steel pommel and original USN-marked and 1943 dated BOYT leather scabbard. Mark 2 is a classic American WW2 era fighting knife; this type was used in combat by the US Army and the Navy men alike in all theaters of the War. This is a rare MK2 “red spacer” specimen – only the early MK2s came with the leather scabbard, and even fewer were the so-called “red spacers”. Fancy colored fiber spacers were quickly done away with to simplify the wartime production and reduce costs. And leather scabbards were simply too fragile in the field – the leather would rot away after contact with seawater. Soon the leather was replaced with composite plastic scabbards. An early USN Mark 2 “red spacer” with original correct all-leather sheath is pretty hard to find these days.
Blued blade is only slightly used; the edge is very sharp still; the tip is intact. This MK2 is about 12” / 30.5 cm overall; the blade is about 7” / 18 cm long. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play. No edge nicks or ding marks on the spine or the pommel; this early MK2 fighter is in great shape overall, considering the age. Original early-war USN-marked leather scabbard was manufactured by Boyt in 1943. The leather is a bit dry but the scabbard is still in great shape with all original staples and stitching intact. A scarce and very desirable “red spacer’ WW2 Robeson USN MK2 fighting knife type; it will be a great addition to any collection!
This original “red spacer’ WW2 Robeson USN MK2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
