Description

WW2 Marbles Ideal fighting knife, large 7″ blade, original “spear-point” leather scabbard. Scarce type in great overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era MARBLE’S IDEAL model with a massive blade, wide bronze double-hilt, and the war-time production “spear point” leather scabbard; proudly made in Gladstone, Michigan, USA. Marble’s was one of the best US makers of hunting knives, axes and other outdoor gear since 1898. With the onset of WW2 Marble’s had quickly adapted to the new market and begun manufacturing a “militarized” double-hilt Ideal model in various blade sizes that were better suited for the needs of the American servicemen. The demand for the much-needed fighting knives early in the war was high; many GIs had privately purchased Marble’s knives and carried them through every major WW2 theater.

This particular Marble’s fighting knife type is illustrated on page 180 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).

This large Ideal is slightly used but it is in much better than average condition for the type. The knife is about 11-1/8″ / 28.3 cm overall; heavy-duty blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm. The blade is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact; vintage 2-line Marble’s logo on ricasso. Stacked leather washes handle with brass and red-n-black fiber spacers. Aluminum “large nut” pommel and bronze double-hilt guard; the handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play. Original “spear-point” leather scabbard is in great shape – the leather s soft and supple still, no cuts or repairs. Flimsy WW2 era stitching is mostly gone at this point but the scabbard holds the blade nice and tight; original keeper is intact.  Overall, this rare large WW2 Marbles Ideal fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!

This original WW2 Marbles Ideal fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos. Spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 We have several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
