WW2 KABAR USMC MK2 fighting knife, early production all-leather scabbard Signed DAVIS; very good overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era famous US Navy Mark 2 “Ka-Bar” fighting knife (the link is a courtesy of Wikipedia) manufactured early in the war by Ka-Bar (Union Cutlery) in Olean, NY. MK2 is a classic American WW2 era fighting knife; this type was used in combat by the US Army and the Navy men alike in all theaters of the War.

This is a desirable early-production USMC-designated specimen with a GI-signed early all-leather scabbard. This MK2 is in great overall condition, considering the age. Early leather scabbards proved to be too fragile in the field – the leather would simply rot and fall apart after contact with seawater. Moving forward, the US armed forces procurement had quickly replaced the leather with the more durable composite composition scabbards. Early-production Ka-Bar MK2s with original and correct all-leather scabbards in better grades are VERY hard to find nowadays.  This MK2 is about 11-1/2″ / 29.2 cm overall; brightly polished blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm long; the knife is in great overall condition. The blade is razor-sharp still, including the “false” upper edge; the tip is a bit rounded. Ricasso is stamped KA-BAR on one side, USMC on the other. Stacked leather washers handle with black fiber spacers at the ends, pinned round hammer-like steel pommel and slightly curved iron handguard. The handle is tight; all parts are solid with no play. No typical ding marks on the pommel or the spine of the blade – rare as such.

Original all-leather scabbard is used, but it’s in better than average condition for the type, considering the typical wear and abuse in the field. All original rivets and stitching; the keeper is intact; the leather is soft and supple still. The front side is stamped DAVIS in two places. Additionally, the front is stamped in black ink H.K. HOUSER and the back is faintly scratched Harold K. Houser.  During the war most of MK2s were used in the field as intended; these early MK2s are VERY hard to find – a rare find and a great addition to any collection. This attractive WW2 KABAR USMC MK2 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉
