Description

Original WW2 Imperial Japan Type 90 Navy flare gun early leather holster in excellent condition, all stitching and original parts intact. VERY rare as just 5300 were made before the war’s end.

Very rare original WW2 era Imperial Japanese Navy leather holster for 28 mm three-barrel TYPE 90 SIGNAL PISTOL manufactured in circa 1930th in Japan.  Adapted for the use by the Imperial Navy in 1930, Type 90 is VERY hard to find Japanese flare gun as only about 5,300 of these were made in total; an old black-n-white US army illustration of a complete Type 90 signal pistol set is attached (photo is not included with the lot). Finding an original early all-leather holster for this cumbersome 3-barrel gun is next to impossible these days. In comparison, Japan made about 280,000 Nambu pistols before the war’s end, far more than the flare pistols.

All Japanese WW2 flare guns are hard to find now as most were discarded/lost in the field. Imperial Navy flare guns are especially scarce since many went down with the ships when they got sunk in a battle. Also, the American GIs would prefer “real firearms” for a trophy; only a few of these bulky flare pistols made it into the US as souvenirs after the war. It is safe to say that less than 10% of the original Type 90 flare gun population survived the war, making it one of the hottest Japanese WW2 collectibles.

Nice pre-war or early WW2 all-leather quality made holster. Late-war period flare gun holsters were made with impregnated canvass material. This is specimen has several ink stamps on the interior side of the top flap cover, including a red Imperial Navy “anchor” arsenal acceptance mark. All  original metal furniture, belts and stitching are intact – VERY rare this nice. Not cleaned or tempered with; scarce in such authentic condition.

We have a few more WW2 era flare guns coming up for sale, including a rare Japanese Army Type 10 Signal Pistol. Also, several scarce WW2 fighting daggers and WW1 trench knives available for sale immediately – please take a look in our Militaria section.  This original WW2 Japan Type 90 Navy flare gun holster has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
