Description

WW2 homefront fighting knife M1905 blade conversion – made from the shortened bayonet tip, original leather scabbard. Rare type in great overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era American fighting knife made from the re-purposed tip of the “long” M1905 16″ blade bayonet. A lot of WW1 era and early WW2 “long” M1905 bayonets were shortened circa late 1943-early 1944 to a more practical 10″ blade. The leftover bayonets tips were turned into gardening tools and some fighting knives – this specimen is one such example. The 6″-long bayonet tip was welded to a steel blank that became a handle; the final product is somewhat crude but it will get the job done. A lot shortening of “long” M1905s was done by AFH and UFH; no idea which maker did this conversion; the knife is completely unmarked.

This interesting fighter is about 12″ / 30.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-7/8″ / 17.5 cm; the blade is very sharp still; the tip is intact. The pommel is a simplified copy of the M1905/M1 bayonet pommel; it’s made of a cast aluminum alloy. Wood grips and brass pins; all handle parts are tight with no play. Original leather scabbard seems to be a standard early leather scabbard type for the M3 trench knife; the leather is soft and supple still; all stitching is intact.

This WW2 homefront fighting knife M1905 blade conversion fighter has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. We have more WW2 American fighting knives, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
