WW2 German Infanteriemesser 42 fighting knife trench dagger, original “boot clip” metal scabbard – hard to find 100% genuine “Model 42 Infantry Knife”. Rare type in very good overall condition, considering the age.

Original WW2 era German Army Model 42 Infantry Knife (Infanteriemesser 42) fighting dagger manufactured circa 1942-1944. Classic WW2 German full-tang construction boot knife with wood handle scales, small integral guard, and original metal scabbard with an elongated “boot-carry” leaf spring. This exact type is illustrated on page 212 of the excellent French reference book by Christian Mary Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 (see the book’s page scan in the photos).

This fighting knife is very good condition – no pitting or dings on the blade; original wood handle scales are near-excellent without the typical cracks or chips; no serious rust on the steel. Unfortunately the blade shows signs of an idiot with a grinder – the edge has been harshly re-sharpened on both sides. The dagger is about 10-1/8” / 25.7 cm overall; the blade is about 5-1/2” / 14 cm. Ricasso is unmarked; the edge (including the upper “false” edge) is very sharp still. All parts are tight with no play; original pins are intact and tight. Original metal scabbard is in great shape with over 90% of the original black finish remaining. There are some contact marks on the ribs; the “boot-carry” leaf spring is nice and tight; this scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition still.

Almost 80 years later this WW2 German Infanteriemesser 42 fighting knife is still in excellent shape, considering the age. Today most of the surviving WW2 era Infanteriemesser 42 knives are in private collections & rarely come up for sale. Don’t miss your chance to add this original WW2 era German boot knife/fighting dagger to your collection!

This attractive and rare WW2 Kinfolks USAF-marked fighting knife/original scabbard has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, the set is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more vintage American-made knives, as well as WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
