WW2 Fairbairn Sykes dagger British 3rd pattern, original metal-tipped “boot-carry configuration” leather scabbard included. Great overall condition, considering the age.

Classic WW2 era British FS “Fairbairn Sykes” fighting dagger with blued dual-edge blade and original metal-tipped leather scabbard. This is FS’ 3rd pattern manufactured during the war. This exact  FS dagger type is illustrated on page 133 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached). Originally designed as the “commando dagger” for the elite British special-ops forces, these “FS” fighting knives became super-popular with the British and American servicemen stationed in the UK during the war. The allied servicemen carried FS daggers in practically every combat theater in Europe, North Africa and in the Middle East. Looks like one of the US Army Rangers overlooking Anzio beachhead landing (Southern Italy) is sporting one such British-made FS dagger  – see the photo scan attached.

This WW2 Fairbairn-Sykes dagger has obviously been used in the field but it’s in better than average condition for the type. It’s a great-looking combat specimen with just simple and honest “in-the-field” wear and tear. The blade is very sharp still; the tip is intact – scarce this nice. Grooved cast handle is marked with a small number “1” near the pommel indicating the very first mold used during the manufacturing of the 3rd Pattern – a scarce type.  The handle is marked with the “broad arrow” / 13 arsenal acceptance stamp below the guard; no dings or contact marks on the grooves, guard, or the blade’s edge – rare this nice.  Typical domed screwed-on bronze pommel and thick iron handguard; the guard is marked ENGLAND on the underside; all parts are solid with no play; a few minor contact marks on the grooves noted for accuracy.  This dagger is about 11-1/2″ / 29.2 cm overall; the blade is about 6-5/8″ / 17.2 cm; the tip is intact; the blade has very pretty “gun-gray” patina throughout. Original leather scabbard is in good shape overall but it has been modified for “boot carry”.  Leather “wings” and the belt hanger part have been cut off . Original metal tip scabbard tip is in great shape with no oxidation or dings. The throat is intact; no typical cuts or “puncture wounds” – this type is scarce this nice. Don’t miss your chance to add this original WW2 British Fairbairn Sykes dagger to your collection!

This classic British WW2 Fairbairn-Sykes dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot ?  I have a few more British-made knives & daggers, several fighting knives made from converted sabers, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
