Description

WW2 era CASE XX Quartermaster Knife 337-6Q model fighting/utility knife, original leather scabbard included. Great condition, considering the age – scarce this nice.

Original World War 2 era “Quartermaster” fighting knife; great overall condition; original leather scabbard is included. Manufactured by Case & Sons Cutlery Company (CASE XX model 337-6″Q). Case’XX Quartermaster was the top-of-the-line “Cadillac versionā€ of these heavy-duty utility knives. Case Cutlery made relatively few of these; they are pretty scarce nowadays, especially in better grades. The vast majority of Quartermasters were made by Cattaraugus – which made a much simpler type (and not nearly as pretty, if you ask me).

The Quartermaster was modeled as a heavy utility knife designed to open ammo boxes, cargo crates and hammer down nails if needed. Quartermaster knives were very popular with the troops and saw action in every major World War 2 theater. This exact type is illustrated on page 88 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s scan attached).

Most of the Quartermasters were used as intended – working on the ships and in the battlefields; leather washers in handles were prone to rot when exposed to the saltwater so many of the surviving specimens are in pretty rough shape. This knife is in excellent shape – the handle is intact , no edge nicks or dings on the spine. The chrome-plated blade has been lightly re-sharpened; the edge is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Some light surface rust spots are noted for accuracy. Ricasso is stamped CASE XX on one side, 337-6″Q on the other. “Grooved” stacked leather washers handle with steel handguard heavy-duty hammer-like pommel is in excellent shape; all parts are tight with no play. The knife is about 10-7/8″ / 27.6 cm overall; the blade is about 6″ / 15.3 cm. Original brown leather scabbard is in great condition, considering the age; all original stitching; the keeper is intact; the leather is soft and supple still. Overall, this model 337-6Q WW2 Case XX Quartermaster Knife and its original leather scabbard are in great condition; a must-have for any serious early CASE collector.

This attractive WW2 era CASE XX Quartermaster Knife /original leather scabbard set has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, they are in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot šŸ˜‰ I have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
