Description

WW2 Cattaraugus 225Q Quartermaster Knife, original leather scabbard; great overall condition; hard-to-find his nice.

Original World War 2 era American “Quartermaster Knife” manufactured during the war by Cattaraugus Cutlery in Cattaraugus, NY. Model 225Q fighting/utility knife (Q stands for Quartermaster) was designed as a heavy-duty knife for opening ammo boxes, cargo crates, and hammering down nails (or enemy sculls) if needed. These Quartermasters were very popular with the troops and saw action in every major military theater during the War. some of these were converted into pretty cool-looking fighting knives by a few talented GIs. This particular type is illustrated on pages 88-89 in the book KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s scan attached).

Model 225Q Quartermaster is a solid heavy-duty tool that was designed to take a lot of abuse – tough and practical, Quartermasters were used as intended in the battlefields, so relatively few survived to the present day in decent condition. This Quartermaster is great condition – the edge is razor-sharp, no edge nicks or dings on the spine; the tip is intact; original leather scabbard is in excellent shape. No typical contact marks on the pommel or pitting on the blade; ricasso is stamped Cattaraugus / 225Q on one side. Stacked leather washers handle with fiber spacers on the ends. Hammer-like iron pommel and “tear-drop shape” iron guard; all parts are tight. This solid fighting/utility knife is about 10-5/8″ / 27 cm overall; the blade is about 6-1/8″ /15.5 cm long. Original leather scabbard is in great condition as well, considering the age. The leather is soft and supple still; the original keeper is a little dry but intact; all original stitching and rivets are intact as well.

This attractive WW2 Cattaraugus 225Q Quartermaster knife and its original scabbard have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, the set is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉 I have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
