Description

WW2 CASE Pig Sticker dagger, early-war jigged bone handle American fighting knife. One of a kind type – engraved blade is ID’d to John Willie of Brooklyn, NY.

Rare early WW2 Case’s Tested XX “pig sticker” private purchase fighting dagger with jigged bone handle scales and hand-engraved with GI’s name, address, and serial number on ricasso.  A one-of a kind American fighting knife for sure! This type dates to circa 1940; manufactured by W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery in Bradford, Pennsylvania.  This type is VERY hard to find these days – Case used jigged bone for handles very early in the war; all later “pig stickers” had wood handles to expedite the wartime production. This type is illustrated on page 94 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the page’s photo attached).

This dagger is about 10-3/8” / 26.4 cm overall; carbon steel blade is about 6-3/8″ / 16.2 cm. Full-tang construction; ricasso is stamped with pre-WW2 “square” CASE logo on one side. The other side is hand engraved JOHN WILLIE /  423 De Witt Ave / BKLYN N.Y . / 32882674. According to the US National Archives, serial number 32882674 was assigned to John J. Willie, born in 1924 in Kings County, New York (now part of NYC), who was enlisted in the US Army from April 1943 to the end of the war. Additional research is needed.

Very attractive burnt bone handle scales with bronze pins are not damaged; the handle is tight with zero play. The blade has been lightly re-sharpened; it’s VERY sharp still; the tip is intact; there is no sheath. This early WW2 CASE Pig Sticker dagger with a scarce jigged bone handle type is VERY rare these days. Very  few Case XX “jigged bone handle” pig stickers were made to begin with and certainly not too many were personolized with GI’s hand-engraved name and address on the blade. Great WW2 era “non-regulation” US fighting knife with a lot of character; you will not be disappointed! We have another scarce WW2 era Case XX Pig Sticker in our store, please take a look!

We have several scarce WW2 fighting daggers and WW1 trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.  This WW2 CASE Pig Sticker dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉

We accept all major credit cards and payments via PayPal as forms of payment. Old-fashioned checks and money orders will work as well; please take a look at the Payments section within our Terms and Conditions for additional details.
