Scarce American WW2 era US Army/Navy Pilot Knife made by CAMILLUS CUTLERY with original leather scabbard; “oval logo” type. These handy 5-inch blade knives were issued to the American aircrews during WW2 as an all-purpose knife in case of a bail-out. During the war a relatively small order of “pilot knives” was placed with Camillus; these Pilot Knives are scarce in good condition these days. This exact type is illustrated on page 85 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).
This WW2 Camillus Pilot Knife and original leather sheath are in excellent overall condition – carbon steel blade with “blood grooves” is in excellent shape, considering the age. The blade has been lightly re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still. Stacked leather washers handle with red-black-n-bronze spacers, bronze guard, and an aluminum pommel. The handle is tight with no play. The knife is about 9-1/4″ / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5″ /12.7 cm long. The original brown leather scabbard is in excellent condition, considering the age; all original rivets and stitching; the keeper is intact. This specimen is in great overall condition; you will not be disappointed!
This attractive WW2 Camillus Pilot Knife and original leather sheath have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉 We have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
