WW2 Camillus Pilot Knife fighting knife with interesting “theater-dressed” handle, No. 124 leather scabbard; great overall condition, considering the age.
Scarce American WW2 era US Army/Navy Pilot Knife made by CAMILLUS CUTLERY; rare “square logo” type. This specimen gas been “field-dressed” during the service – the handle was completely re-done with new washers, narrow bronze guard, and heavy-duty bpronze pommel. These handy 5-inch blade knives were issued to the American aircrews during WW2 as an all-purpose knife in case of a bail-out. During the war a relatively small order of “pilot knives” was placed with Camillus; these Pilot Knives are scarce in good condition these days. This exact type is illustrated on page 85 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the book’s page scan attached).
The carbon steel blade with “blood grooves” is in great shape, considering the age. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. All handle parts are tight with no play. The knife is about 9-1/4″ / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5″ /12.9 cm long. The brown leather scabbard is stamped 124 on the hanger; this scabbard is not original to the knife but is original WW2 era. The scabbard is better than average condition, considering the age; most of the stitching is intact; the tip is wrapped in black electrician’s tape. This original WW2 era knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos.
