WW2 Camillus M3 trench knife, original M8A1 composition scabbard. Scarce WW-II era American fighting knife in great overall condition, considering the age.
Original WW2 era M3 Fighting Knife/Trench Knife manufactured by Camillus Cutlery in great overall condition. This is the guard-marked specimen; it comes with original M8A1 composition scabbard, also in great shape. This trench knife is about 11-5/8” / 29.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17.1 cm. Blued blade has minimal wear; the edge has been gently re-sharpened, it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. About 95% of the original blade bluing remaining. Stacked grooved leather washers handle; steel guard and hammer-like pommel; all parts are tight with no play. The pommel is stamped with the “flaming bomb” arsenal acceptance mark. Similar types are illustrated on pages 38-43 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons.
Original M8A1 composition scabbard by Beckwith Manufacturing Company – marked US M8A1 / B.M. CO. on the throat; top plate underside is marked B 3/8 N. The scabbard is slightly used, the keeper is nice tight; this scabbard is in better than average condition for the type. The webbing is GI-signed, including hi military ID number. The ink is a bit smudged and hard to read; the name seems to be Joe S Beseney (??); the serial looks like 519 88 196. Overall, this WW2 Camillus M3 Trench Knife / M8A1 scabbard set is in 100% serviceable condition still; this type is harder to find in better grades nowadays; you will not be disappointed!
