Description

WW2 Camillus 1944 USCG knife/Merchant Marine knife, rosewood handle scales, original shackle intact. Scarce type in great overall condition, considering the age.

Scarce original WW2 era US Coast Guard Knife with the 3-1/2″ blade and rosewood handle scales, manufactured during the war by CAMILLUS CUTLERY in Camillus, New York state. Camilus Cutlery was one of the largest contributors of the edged weapons to the US military during the war. This knife type is illustrated in the U.S. MILITARY KNIVES; BOOK TWO published in 1973 by M. H. Cole – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book’s scans attached).

This specimen is used, but it is in very good overall condition for this type. The knife is about 4-3/8″ / 11.2 cm closed; sheepfoot blade is about 3-1/2″ / 9 cm long; it has been re-sharpened and it’s very sharp still, the tip is a bit rounded. The blade is nice and tight with no play when opened but the spring is somewhat weak. The tang is stamped CAMILLUS / NEW  YORK / U.S.A. on one side, APPROVED / USCG / 1944Q5 on the other. Original jigged rosewood handle scales with steel bolsters & pins; original steel shackle is intact; all handle parts are tight with no play.

This original WW2 Camillus 1944 USCG knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original condition; these are the actual photos. I also have a rare WW2 era USN Marlin Spike knife made by Camillus – please take a look.   I have a few more naval collectibles, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
