Description

WW2 American theater fighting dagger, original signed leather scabbard, matching GI’s dog tags – ID’d to Horace P. McDowell. Unique large fighting knife in great condition, considering the age.

Original and undoubtedly one-of-a-kind WW2 era American “theater-made” fighting knife made from whatever materials were available on hand. The dagger comes with the set of original WW2 dog tags (“3rd format” – issued 07/1943 – 03/1944) identified to Horace P. McDowell. Knife’s scabbard is stamped with matching name and military ID number on both sides. The ink has faded somewhat but the name and serial number are still visible.

The overall quality of this unique but practical fighter is actually pretty high. The fit and balance are excellent for such a bottom-heavy knife, all parts are tight; the finely-honed dual-edge blade is super-sharp still. Cast aluminum handle with large oval steel guard and bronze pommel; all parts are tight with no play. This interesting fighter s about 13″ / 33 cm overall; the blade is about 8″ / 20.3 cm long; the blade is razor- sharp still; no edge nicks or pitting; the tip is intact. Original hand-made leather scabbard is in great shape, considering the age. The keeper is nice and tight; all original stitching is intact; the leather is not dry.

I’m selling this item on a consignment; a reserve price has been set by the seller. This interesting and certainly one-of-a kind theater-made WW2 American theater fighting dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have more WW2 era American, British, Australian, New Zealand, and German fighting knives, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
