WW2 American Patton sword fighting knife made from WW1 era Springfield Armory M1913 Cavalry Saber. Leather scabbard is signed RANDY CRUM; great overall condition.
Very rare WW2 era fighting knife/trench dagger made from the WW1 era M1913 Cavalry Saber, aka the “Patton Sword” (M1913 sword description page is the courtesy of Wikipedia). These “Patton Sword” daggers were made early in the war for the US servicemen using M1913 Calvary swords and even some older Civil War sabers. This type is illustrated on pages 228-229 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons. The dagger comes with the original leather scabbard owner-signed RANDY CRUM.
This dagger is about 13” / 33 cm overall; fullered dual-edge blade is about 8-1/4” / 21 cm; razor-sharp edge is near-perfect, the tip is intact. Leather-wrapped handle with a steel pommel and handguard is in great overall condition. The leather is nice and tight; steel guard has a tiny bit of a play; a small puncture hole on one side is noted for accuracy. Original leather scabbard has obvious signs of heavy field use; belt hanger has a couple of cuts; there are a couple of cuts on the front as well. In spite of the damage, the scabbard still holds the knife well. The name RANDY is scratched on the front; the back is faintly scratched RANDY CRUM. The leather is soft and supple; good overall condition, considering the age.
This WW2 American Patton sword fighting knife type is VERY hard to find these days – today most of the surviving “Calvary Saber fighting knives” are in private collections and are off the market. This is one of the best WW2 era “non-regulation” US fighting knives with a lot of character, you will not be disappointed!
This rare original WW2 American Patton sword fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
