Original WW2 era M3 Trench Knife manufactured by Imperial Cutlery in rare unused condition. This is the guard-marked type; comes with original M8 composition scabbard. This M3 is about 11-5/8” / 29.5 cm overall; the blade is about 6-3/4″ / 17.2 cm. Parkerized blade has not been re-sharpened; original edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. About 99% of the original blade finish remaining. The distinctive “Imperial” brown Bakelite spacers at the ends of the handle are in excellent overall condition with no cracks – rare in such a great shape as bakelite spacers were prone to cracking in the field. Stacked leather washers handle with thick steel hammer-like pommel; all parts are tight with zero play. The pommel is stamped with the “flaming bomb” arsenal acceptance mark. Similar types are illustrated on pages 38-43 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons.
Original M8 composition scabbard by Beckwith Manufacturing Company – marked US M8 / B.M. CO. on the throat; top plate underside is marked B 1/5 N. The scabbard is also unused with just a couple of contact marks on the ridges. Excellent overall condition; the keeper is tight; od-green paracord lanyard is still tied to the scabbard. Overall, this WW2 American Fighting Knife Imperial M3 TRENCH KNIFE M8 scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition still; this type is VERY harder to find in unused condition with original finish intact; you will not be disappointed!
