Rare early WW1 era “pig sticker” fighting dagger with jigged bone handle scales and original leather scabbard; made by Schatt & Morgan Cutlery Company in Titusville, Pennsylvania. Schatt & Morgan operated a factory in Titusville, PA from 1902 to 1928; this type is VERY hard to find nowadays in any shape or form. Well-made quality pre-war manufacture “pig sticker” with jigged bone handle scales and German silver guard/pommel. This type was popular with the troops and many of these handy fighting knives were carried off to Europe during the Great War. During WW2 a lot of “pig sticker” daggers once again were used by the American GIs as “private purchase” fighting knives due to the side arms shortages early in the war.
Full-tang construction; the dagger is about 9-1/2” / 24 cm overall; carbon steel blade is about 5-1/8″ / 13 cm long. German silver guard, pommel, and pins; all parts are tight with no play. The blade is unmarked; the pommel is stamped SCHATT & MORGAN / CUTLERY CO. / TITUSVILLE, PA on one side. Very attractive burnt jigged bone handle scales with bronze pins; no chips, cracks, or repairs – rare this nice. The blade is razor-sharp still; needle-like tip is intact. Original dark-brown leather sheath is in good overall condition, considering the age. The keeper is intact; the leather is soft and supple still; some stitching loss is noted for accuracy. There is a name and some numbers written on the back but the writing is too worn-out to make out.
This WW1 Schatt Morgan Pig Sticker dagger /fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉 I have a few more vintage European knives, as well as WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
