Description

Western WW2 G46-8 fighting knife, large blued 8-in blade, original leather scabbard. Rare type in very good overall condition, considering the age.

Scarce WW2 era fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery in Boulder, Colorado. This exact type is illustrated on page 237 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons.

This large fighter is about 13-1/6” / 33.2 cm overall; a massive fullered and blued blade is about 8″ / 20.3 cm. The edge has been re-sharpened and it is razor-sharp still, the tip is intact; no typical spine dings or edge nicks; about 60% of the original blade bluing remaining. Stacked leather washers handle with black and red fiber spacers at the ends, solid steel guard and hammer-like heavy duty thick iron pommel. The handle is tight with no play; all leather washers are intact. Original leather scabbard is well-used; most of the original stitching is gone; one side of the belt hanger is broken. At this point this scabbard is for display only; I would not recommend using it as intended.

This Western WW2 G46-8 fighting knife is by far the best “non-regulation” fighting knife Western Cutlery produced for the American military during the war. The G46-8 fighter was very popular with the troops and most were used in the field as intended. These giant fighters are usually pretty beat-up with rusted blades or with original bluing gone. This Western WW2 G46-8 fighting knife is in better than average condition for the type, don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!

This original Western WW2 G46-8 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. Spent brass is not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more American, German, British, Italian, and French fighting knives, as well as some scarce WW2 and WW1 daggers, trench knives and bayonets available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
