Original WW2 era model L77 Commando Stiletto fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery Co. in Boulder, Colorado. Very attractive blued blade type in great overall condition; comes with the original leather scabbard included. This fighting stiletto is about 11-1/4” / 28.4 cm overall; the blade is about 6-15/16″ / 17.7 cm. Fullered blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. No edge nicks or pitting on the blade; about 40% of the original blade blueing remaining. Stacked leather and colored fiber washers handle; steel guard and aluminum pommel. The handle is solid – all parts are tight; the guard has a tiny bit of a play. No typical dings or nicks on the pommel – scarce this nice as a lot of these fighting knives were used to hammer-open rations’ crates and ammo boxes. This exact type is illustrated on page 236 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached).
The original leather scabbard is included. The scabbard is obviously in used condition, but it is still in much better than average shape for the type. The leather is soft and supple; all original stitching and rivets are intact; an original keeper is nice and tight – scarce this nice. Overall, this Western L77 Commando WW2 American fighting knife with original leather scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition still; with proper care it will last you another 75 years 😉
This attractive Western L77 Commando WW2 American fighting knife/stiletto dagger has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition.
