Scarce WW2 era fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery in Boulder, Colorado. This exact type is illustrated on page 239 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons.
A massive clip-point fullered blade is about 8″ / 20.3 cm; the knife is about 13-1/8” / 33.2 cm overall. The edge is VERY sharp still, the tip is intact; this is the “bright finish” blade type. Stacked leather washers handle with black and red fiber spacers at the ends, solid steel guard and hammer-like heavy-duty pommel. The handle is tight with no play; leather washers on one side have a couple of contact marks; nothing serious. Original leather scabbard in good shape, considering the age; minor stitching loss at the tip is noted for accuracy. The leather is soft and supple still; the keeper is the WW2 era field-expedient fix – seems to be part of the web gear kit.
This Western G46-8 WW2 American fighting knife type is rare in good condition these days – most these Western 8″ blade fighting knives were used as intended during the war and relatively few specimens survived to this day in good condition. This Western G46-8 WW2 American fighting knife is by far the best “non-regulation” fighting knife Western Cutlery produced for the American military during the war. The knife is in great overall condition, considering the age; you will not be disappointed!
This attractive Western G46-8 WW2 American fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it’s in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot. We have a few more American WW2 era combat knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives from other countries available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
