Description

Vietnam War TMN M4 bayonet, original PWH M8A1 composition scabbard. Circa 1954 Turner Manufacturing Co. production; rare UNUSED condition – this type is hard-to-find this nice.

Original Vietnam War era M4 bayonet for M1 carabine manufactured circa 1954 by Turner Manufacturing Company of Statesville, North Carolina (stamped TMN on the guard). Turner was the very first manufactured of M4 bayonets with the “new style” plastic grips. Turner fulfilled their contract for 298,700 bayonets in 1954 – too late for major combat operations of the Korean War, so most of these TMN M4s were issued during the war in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War a large quantity of M1 carabines were transferred to the South Vietnamese armed forces where it was well-received by the troops. Attached are a few contemporary photos of South Vietnamese troops armed with M1 carabines and M4 bayonets (photos are for reference only; not included with the lot).

This specimen is in rare unused / unissued condition with original finish and factory edge; original US-made M8A1 scabbard is minty as well. This M4 is about 11-1/2″/ 29. cm overall; parkerized blade is about 6-5/8″ / 17 cm long. Factory original edge is very sharp; the tip is intact. Ricasso is unmarked as intended; muzzle ring/guard is stamped U.S. M4TMN. Black plastic handle scales are tight and in perfect condition; the handle is solid; tall parts are tight with no play. Bayonet release mechanism is in perfect working order; it’s 100% functional. Original M8A1 composition scabbard was made by Pennsylvania Working Home for the Blind (PWH stamp on the throat). The scabbard is unused as well; unpainted “gun-gray” steel throat is stamped USM8A1 / PWH on the front side.

This rare unused early Vietnam War TMN M4 bayonet and PWH M8A1 composition scabbard are in excellent overall condition and 100% serviceable still. Not cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉  I have a few more Vietnam War fighting knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 American and European fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
