Description

Vietnam War Service Armaments Co M4 bayonet, original composition scabbard. Made in Japan; sold primarily to South Vietnam Armed Forces. Rare UNUSED – this type is hard-to-find this nice.

Original Vietnam War era M4 bayonet for M1 .30 caliber carabine; this type was manufactured in the 1970th by Service Armaments Co. based in Ridgefield, NJ. in Camillus, NY. The M4 bayonet was first issued during WW2 but was used extensively during the Korean War and later in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War a large quantity of M1 carabines were transferred to the South Vietnamese armed forces were it was well-received by the troops. Attached are a few contemporary photos of South Vietnamese troops armed with M1 carabines and M4 bayonets.

Service Armament Co. (SAC) had a placed an order for a quantity of M4s to be made in Japan where the blades were marked incorrectly during production. The blades were supposed to be marked as S.A.C. for Service Armaments Co. but the Japan-based manufacturer had mismarked the blades. Ricasso on these specimens is marked JAPAN on one side, S. A. B. / RIDGEFIELD, N.J. on the other. Reportedly, most of these M4s were sold to the government of the Republic of Vietnam. This type is hard to find nowadays as very few were sold commercially and most of the original order ended up with the commies after the 1975 Fall of Saigon.

I have two (2) nearly-identical SAC M4s available for sale. Both specimens are in rare unused / unissued condition with original finish and factory edge. Each specimen is about 11-1/2″/ 29.2 cm overall; blued blade is about 6-1/2″ / 16.5 cm long. Original factory edge; the blade (including the “false” edge) is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Ricasso is marked JAPAN on one side, S. A. B. / RIDGEFIELD, N.J. on the other; muzzle ring/guard and pommel are unmarked as intended. Stacked leather washers handle is tight and in perfect condition; the handle is solid; the guard has a tiny bit of a play. Bayonet release mechanism is in perfect working order; it’s 100% functional. Original composition scabbards with OD-green webbing are included. Both scabbards are unused as well; plain unpainted “gun-gray” steel throat; the scabbards are unmarked.

This rare unused Vietnam War Service Armaments Co M4 bayonet with original composition scabbard is in excellent overall condition and 100% serviceable still. Not cleaned or tampered with in any way, 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.  I have a few more Vietnam War fighting knives and bayonets, as well as several scarce WW1 and WW2 American and European fighting daggers, bayonets and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
