USA WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife in rare unused condition, massive blued 8-in blade, original leather scabbard. Scarce type in excellent overall condition, considering the age.

Scarce WW2 era model G46-8 fighting knife manufactured during the war by Western Cutlery in Boulder, Colorado, in rare UNUSED condition. This exact type is illustrated on page 237 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons. This large fighter is about 13-1/8” / 33.2 cm overall; massive “gun-blued” fullered blade is about 8″ / 20.4 cm. The blade has not been re-sharpened; original factory edge is razor-sharp, the tip is intact; no typical spine dings or edge nicks; almost all of the original bluing is intact – this type is VERY rare this nice. Stacked leather washers handle with black and red fiber spacers at the ends, solid blued steel guard and hammer-like heavy duty thick iron pommel. The handle is tight with no play; all leather washers are intact. Original leather scabbard is in good shape, but it has an unfortunate “puncture wound” at the tip and a small cut at the throat from putting the blade in too quickly. Great condition overall, considering the age; the leather is soft and supple still.

This USA WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife is by far the best “non-regulation” fighting knife Western Cutlery produced for the American military during the war. The G46-8 fighter was very popular with the troops and most were used in the field as intended. These giant fighters are usually pretty beat-up with rusted blades or with original bluing gone. Overall, this USA WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife is in much better than average condition for the type, don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!

I’m selling this item on a consignment; a reserve price has been set by the seller. This original USA WW2 Western G46-8 fighting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way; it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. Garand clips are not included with the knife 😉 I have a few more American, German, British, Italian, and French fighting knives, as well as some scarce WW2 and WW1 daggers, trench knives and bayonets available for sale – please take a look in the Militaria section.
