Description

US Cavalry M1912 Picket Pin, original leather carrier used with M1913 Cavalry Saber (Patton Sword) – part of pre-WW1 experimental kit for mounted troops. Scarce type in great condition, considering the age.

Original and quite scarce pre-WW1 manufacture US Calvary M1912 picket pin and its leather case/saddle carrier  – this type was used with the last US M1913 Cavalry Saber, aka the “Patton Sword” (M1913 sword description page is the courtesy of Wikipedia).  The M1912 pin was part of the experimental Calvary kit that never went to a full production – see the last photo of the complete kit. It was an excellent design with multiple uses; unfortunately for the Calvary its days as the real military force and all of its equipment were over. The pin/hammer/shovel handle is a solid piece of cold-forged steel; primed and painted black. Minor damage to the picket pin paint from the field use; about 50% of the original black finish remaining. The pin is about 13-5/8″ / 34.5 cm long; weights 1 lb 8.3 oz / 0.69 kg. Comes with equally scarce leather carrier. All stitching and brass furniture is intact; sword scabbard retention straps had been removed; the leather is still soft and supple still – rare this nice.

This rare original US Cavalry M1912 Picket Pin and leather carrier has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way,  it’s in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos. I have several WW2 fighting knives made from converted WW1 sabers, as well as some scarce WW1 and WW2 fighting daggers and trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.
