WW2 Ulster Cutlery US mountain troops ski knife, US Army issue – rare military folder with early jigged bone handle scales. Excellent overall condition, considering the age.
Very rare WW2 era US Army Mountain and Ski Troops multi-tool knife with jigged bone handle scales in slightly used condition – scarce this nice. Manufactured circa 1942-1943 by the long-gone ULSTER KNIFE COMPANY in Elenville, NY. Scarce type with stand-alone Phillips screwdriver for adjusting ski attachments – one of the hardest to find standard-issue American WW2 knives. This type was reportedly used by the troops of the US 10th Mountain Division and the mixed Canadian-American 1st Special Service Force unit. This exact type is illustrated on page 108 of THE COMPLETE BOOK OF U.S. MILITARY POCKET KNIVES published in 2015 by M. H. Cole – a well-established expert and the author of a number of books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see the book’s scans attached).
This WW2 ULSTER KNIFE Co American Mountain Ski Troops knife is in rare practically unused condition. The largest blade is about 2-1/4” / 5.7 cm long; the tip is intact; the edge has been re-sharpened; it’s very sharp still. All other tools are in great shape as well; the springs are nice and tight. The tang on the longest blade is stamped ULSTER / KNIFE Co. / U.S.A.; the bail is stamped U.S. Original jigged bone handle scales with steel bolsters, liners and pins; all parts are tight; one thin crack near the top pin on one of the jigged bone scales is noted for accuracy. This type is pretty hard to find these days – today most of the surviving WW-2 era “mountain/ski troops knives” are in private collections and rarely come up for sale; I have another “ski troops knife” in better condition available for sale here. Don’t miss your chance to add this Ulster WW2 US mountain troops ski knife to your collection!
This original Ulster WW2 US mountain troops ski knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, it is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
