A exotic-looking Skinner with superb quality eagle head handle carving, finished with desert ironwood and finely engraved with leaf-pattern solid bronze handguard. The “screaming eagle” carving is simply fantastic in quality and design; the carving is not signed but it was almost certainly done by John Alward. We have three more nearly-identical style custom knives which are signed by him. Mr. Alward of Allen, Michigan, is a well-known “old school” carver; he furnished a number of fantastic quality, one of a kind custom handles for quite a few high profile knife makers. Bronze engraving was done by Jim Sornberger who signed and dated the handguard’s underside with the following: Engr. & Carving J. Sornberger 2-98. J. Jim is a talented knifemaker and a superb carving/engraving artist; his work adorns numerous custom knives of a number of the high-profile knifemakers.
The knife is approximately 10” / 25.5 cm overall; mirror-polished blade is about 5-1/2” / 14 cm; there is no sheath. The blade is etched on one side with the maker’s oval logo: Tom Morlan / TM / Hemet, Calif. Original edge, the blade has never been re-sharpened, it is RAZOR sharp; the tip is intact.
