Rare official Sons of the Revolution gold badge / pendant made circa late 1800th by Bailey, Banks & Biddle of Philadelphia. This badge was awarded to William T. Dyer on January 18, 1906 and serial-numbered 3279 on the back. The name, date, and the serial and hand-engraved on the badge’s back side. William Dyer was a direct descendant of the Dyer family who came to Boston from England in 1629. One of the original colonists – also named William Dyer (or Dyre, depending on the period records) became a freeman in Boston and in 1638 was on of the 17 original purchasers of the native American territory that became the Colony of Rhode Island.
This badge is unmarked but these extremely well-made pendants are 14K gold with hot deep-blue enamel on the front side of the frame. The the front panel depicts a colonial militia member with the field cannon in the background, surrounded by 13 gold stars in the blue enamel field representing the 13 original American colonies. The top is a gorgeous hand-finished eagle with the ringed suspension mount on the back. The badge is about 45 mm to to bottom, 30.3 mm side to side, total weight is 0.62 oz / 17.6 grams. Very attractive specimen with fantastic eye appeal. Not cleaned or tempered with; these are the actual photos.
