Description
SOG SCUBA Demo fighting knife made in Seki, Japan in 2001-2008, original leather sheath with honing stone; excellent overall condition – scarce this nice.
Excellent quality SOG SCUBA Demo fighting knife in excellent overall condition (SOG designation model number SSD89). SOG had manufactured this SCUBA Demo to the exact specs of the famously rare Vietnam War era “SCUBA Demo fighter” of which just 39 (!!) were made in the early 1960th. Originally, 38 of these SCUBA fighting knives were delivered to the Naval Advisory Detachment in Vietnam in charge of the coastal operations. In 1964 all 38 were issued to OPLAN34 ALPHA team. Out of 38 knives issued to the team, 36 were lost in the field making this model the rarest of all Vietnam War era-issued SOG fighting knives. If anyone comes across the original 1960th SCUBA DEMO survivor, please do not hesitate to contact me 😉
SOG manufactured this long-discontinued SCUBA DEMO model from 2001 to 2008 in Seki, Japan, using the best modern-day materials available at the time. The knife comes with original SOG EXTRAORDINARY TOOLS & BLADES hardwood presentation case and SOG black leather sheath with a honing stone in the front pocket; the stone has never been used. Expertly crafted stacked leather washes and white spacers handle is finished with solid bronze handguard and pommel with the lanyard hole. The knife about is 12-3/8″” / 31.5 cm overall; the blade is about 7-1/4″ / 18.4 cm long and 6 mm thick. The blade is AUS-8A alloy steel hardened to a respectable 57-58 Rc hardness; original factory edge is RAZOR-sharp; the tip is intact. Extra-large serrations on the spine were specifically designed for cutting a thick rope; minor hairline scratches on the some serrations are noted for accuracy (could be polished-off, if needed). Other than that, the knife is in excellent overall shape; these early Seki-made SCUBA DEMO SOGs are very hard to find nowadays. This SOG SCUBA Demo fighting knife could be a handy back-up for that “Plan B” scenario, or just a great addition to your collection of vintage SOG fighters. This long-discontinued SOG model will make a great addition to any collection.
