Nelson Cooper custom throwing knife, heavy-duty construction with brass-brazed blade and stacked washers handle. Seldom seen type; possibly unique; scarce UNUSED condition.
Excellent quality large throwing knife handmade by John Nelson Cooper in the late 1960th – a great find! John N. Cooper (1906-1987) was one of the founding members of the American Knifemakers’ Guild and one of the greatest American knifemakers of all time; his throwing knives are especially hard to find.
The knife about 12-7/8″ / 32.8 cm overall, the blade is about 7-7/8″ / 20 cm. The blade is virtually indestructible piece of solid stainless steel with the satin finish. Heavy solid piece of bronze guard is brazed to the blade – this is Cooper’s signature style which made his knives so long-lasting, even in the most adverse conditions. Bronze guard and pommel are solid with no play; the bronze is excellent with original golden-honey patina; minor discoloration on the pommel is noted for accuracy – cleanable. The “broad-head” blade is very sharp; the tip is intact; excellent overall condition. This big boy weights about 1 lb 8.3 oz / 0.7 kg; it is very well-balanced and is perfect for target throwing.
Very interesting and certainly one-of-the-kind vintage handmade Nelson Cooper throwing knife in rare unused condition; there is no sheath. This rare knife will make a great addition to any collection.
