Military Equipment Co Sheffield folding Bowie knife; blade marked 7 Waterloo Place, S.W. original intact horn handle scales. Rare circa 1860-1890 Victorian era fighter in great overall condition, considering the age.

Antique folding Bowie made circa 1860-1890th; the blade is marked with the London-based cutlery and militaria seller: MILITARY EQUIPMENT CO. / 7 WATERLOO PLACE. S.W.  Lock-back construction; to open the blade from the closed position simply press on the push-down bottom located on the side of the handle; push on the lockback on the spine to close the blade. The blade is tight with no play; it has been sharpened; the edge is very sharp still; the tip is intact. Original dark-gray patina on the blade throughout; minor pitting is noted for accuracy. The blade is in very good condition overall with no dings on the blade’s spine or edge nicks, or pitting; original tip is not damaged; handle scales are intact  – this type is scarce this nice.

This very attractive folding Bowie is about 11-1/8” / 28.3 cm overall fully opened; the blade is about 6-3/4” / 17.2 cm long. Original “diamond pattern” horn handle scales with German silver pins and center blade release push-down medallion.  Scales are in excellent shape, considering the age – no cracks, chips, or repairs; all parts are tight.  Original sheath did not survive.
