Description

Marbles DeWeese knife, original stag handle scales and rare early 1900th MARBLE TRADE MARK tubular leather sheath. Made in Gladstone, MI circa 1912-1923; VERY rare type in great overall condition, considering the age.

Rare circa 1911 manufacture MARBLE’S KNIVES Dallas “Dall” DeWeese design hunting knife with stag handle scales and rare early-issue MARBLE TRADE MARK tubular leather sheath in great overall condition, considering the age. No a common type to begin with, DeWeese hunters are exceedingly hard to find these days, especially early models in such great shape. The DeWeese was made by Marble’s from 1902 to about 1930; all were hand-finished at the Marble’s factory in Gladstone, Michigan. Attached is the scan of circa 1913 Marble’s ad featuring the now-famous design. Marble’s high-quality hunting knives had been popular in the States since 1898; “Dall DeWeese” design was probably the first ever attempt in the use of a celebrity to push for better knife sales. In spite of the great design and solid quality, DeWeese Hunter was not a great seller; the model was discontinued in 1931.

This model 2 knife is about 7″ / 17.8 cm overall; the blade is about 3-3/4″ / 9.5 cm; rare 2-line Gladstone / MICH. U.S.A.  logo. Solid full-tang construction; early Model 1-2 “no ricasso” blade type. The blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. Genuine European stag  handle scales with brass pins; excellent quality stag slabs had turned amber-yellow over time; no cracks or insect damage. The handle is tight with no play; typical age-related wear is noted for accuracy. The knife comes with equally rare early MARBLE TRADE MARK embossed tubular leather sheath in very good overall condition; original aluminum tip protector is still inside; later stitching at the throat is noted for accuracy. The leather is soft and supple, original stitching is intact; this type is very rare this nice.
