MARBLES DeWeese knife, German stag handle scales, original early tubular leather sheath included. Made in Gladstone, Michigan circa 1912-1923; VERY rare type.
Rare circa 1912-1923 manufacture MARBLE’S KNIVES Dallas “Dall” DeWeese design hunting knife with stag handle scales and original tubular leather sheath in excellent overall condition, considering the age. No a common type to begin with, DeWeese Hunters are exceedingly hard to find these days, especially in such great shape. Made by Marble’s between 1912 and 1923 in Gladstone, Michigan. Marble’s high-quality hunting knives had been popular in the States since 1898; “Dall DeWeese” design was probably the first ever attempt in the use of a celebrity to push for better knife sales. Attached is the scan of circa 1918 Marble’sad featuring the now-famous design. In spite of the great design and solid quality, DeWeese Hunter was not a great seller; the model was discontinued in 1931.
The knife is about 7″ / 17.8 cm overall; the blade is about 3-3/4″ / 9.5 cm; vintage 3-line Marble’s / Gladstone / MICH. U.S.A. logo on ricasso. The blade is razor-sharp still; the tip is intact. German stag scales and brass pins handle; excellent quality stag slabs of yellow amber tone with no cracks or insect damage. The handle is tight with no play; two tiny chips on the pommel are noted for accuracy. The knife comes with early Marble’s tubular leather sheath in slightly used condition; original aluminum tip protector is still inside; one small cut at the throat is noted for accuracy. The leather is soft and supple, all stitching is intact; very rare this nice.
This particular MARBLES DeWeese knife type is VERY hard-to-find these days; this little beauty will be a great addition to any collection of vintage blades. Don’t miss your chance!
