John Nelson Cooper dagger handmade boot knife, original soft black leather sheath included. 1970th vintage with classic brown micarta and polished bronze fittings handle; unused – rare as such.
Excellent quality vintage boot knife handmade by John Nelson Cooper with original soft leather “boot carry” sheath included – a great find! John N. Cooper (1906-1987) was one of the founding members of the American Knifemakers’ Guild and one of the greatest American knifemakers of all time; his early customs are especially hard to find. This dagger was made in the classic vintage John Cooper style – hand finished dual-edge dagger blade with the classic “Cooper eagle” on ricasso; the handle is brown micata with brazed bronze bolster, brass spacers, and a solid bronze pommel. Nice original honey-golden patina on the bronze; metal surfaces have not been cleaned and/or re-polished.
The dual-edge blade is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. The handle is well-fitted and provides a very comfortable grip; all parts are solid with zero play. The knife is about 7-1/2″ / 19 cm overall; the blade is about 3-1/2″ / 9 cm. The knife comes with original “boot carry” custom-made black leather sheath in excellent overall condition. All original stitching is intact; the leather is soft and supple. This sheath is designed for inside boot/pocket carry only – there are no loops or cuts for a belt to go through. Very interesting and certainly one-of-the-kind custom John Nelson Cooper dagger/boot knife and original leather sheath – this rare knife will make a great addition to any collection.
