James Furlow custom fighting dagger handmade in the 1970th in Atlanta, GA, USA. Blade engraved Lt. Col. Wm. E. Kilgore. Rare type in UNUSED condition.
Excellent quality large hunting/fighting Bowie handmade by the late James Furlow in the late 1970th – a great find! James was an active custom knifemaker out of Atlanta, GA up to the late 1970th, according to The Knife Magazine records.
Ricasso is engraved Lt. Col. Wm. E. Kilgore – a cheeky reference to the famous “I love the smell of napalm in the morning” fictional Lt. Colonel Kilgore from the 1979 The Apocalypse Now Francis Coppola movie. This is an excellent quality fighting knife with a superb fit and balance. The dagger about 11-3/4″ / 3 cm overall, mirror-polished blade is about 6-11/16″ / 17 cm. The blade is nice and clean with no rust or dark spots; the handle is green micarta with a wide polished bronze double-guard. The guard has original golden-honey patina; no contact marks or nicks on the pommel. The dual-edge blade is razor-sharp, it has not been re-sharpened; the tip is intact; the blade is in excellent overall condition. This big boy weights about 12 oz / 342 grams; it is very well-balanced and sits comfortably in either hand. There is no sheath.
