Germany WW2 Luftwaffe boot knife LUFTWAFFEN-KAMPFMESSER fighting dagger, original “leaf spring” metal scabbard; rare type in very good overall condition, considering the age.

Scarce WW 2 era German “LUFTWAFFEN-KAMPFMESSER” German Air Force fighting knife with original all-metal “boot carry” scabbard. This type was issued to the aircrews, as well s the German paratroopers; this knife was light, practical, and reliable in the field and it was well-received by the troops on the ground.  This exact type is illustrated on pages 246-247, as well as in the center of the title page of the excellent French reference book Knives and Daggers-Bayonets Used by the German Army During 1914-1945 by Christian Mary (see the book’s scans attached).

This knife is well-used but it’s in better than average shape for the type; this Germany WW2 Luftwaffe fighting knife is in 100% serviceable condition still. The dagger is about 10-7/8” / 27.7 cm overall; the blade is about 6-3/8” / 16.2 cm long. The blade is stamped with the “eagle 6” Luftwaffe proof mark on ricasso.  The blade has been re-sharpened; it is razor-sharp still with no edge nicks or duings on the spine; the tip is intact.  Original hardwood handle scales have been “theater re-dressed” with aircraft Plexiglas and wrapped in thin black paracord. The hadle is in very good shape overall; one chip on the plastic on the pommel is noted for accuracy. The iron handguard is nice and firm; all parts are tight with no play.  Original metal scabbard with the classic “leaf spring” for boot carry is in great shape, considering the age. The internal blade spring is tight and and holds the blade quite well; the center exterior boot spring prong is missing; the rest are nice and tight. Original black finish on the scabbard is about 85% intact – this type is rare this nice.

After 80 plus years this Germany WW2 Luftwaffe boot knife / fighting dagger and its original metal scabbard are still in very good shape, considering the age.
