Germany WW2 1938 Durkopp bayonet original metal scabbard. The bayonet is unused with original edge and factory “brown” blade finish – this type is rare this nice
Original WW2 era German bayonet for “Karabiner 98K” Mauser bolt-action rifle. Manufactured by Durkopp Werke one year before the start of the Second World War in Europe (number 38 on the spine at the base of the blade); scarce high-quality production with the early pre-war type “brown” finish on the blade. Before the war Durkopp Werke was the maker of sewing machines, conveyors, bicycles and motorcycles. They had always made an excellent quality product, and it it definitely shows in the overall quality of this bayonet.
The bayonet is apparently un-issued with no signs of use, just some light scratches on the blade from pulling it out of a scabbard; a couple of minor surface rust spots on the handle are noted for accuracy. This bayonet is in excellent overall condition; pre-war specimens are very hard-to-find this nice. Ricasso is sharply stamped DURKOPP on one side and serial number 7673f on the other. The bayonet is about 15-1/8” / 38.4 cm overall; the blade is about 9-3/5″ / 24.8 cm long. The blade has retained about 95% of its original brown finish. Original dark-brown bakelite grips are in very good condition with no cracks or chips. The bayonet’s release button is in perfect working order; no contact marks on the pommel. The Waffenamt stamp on the bayonet’s release button looks like WaA5473; scabbard’s tip is stamp is unreadable.
The bayonet comes with matching WW2 eara steel scabbard stamped DURKOPP 38 on the throat on one side and 7673 on the other. The 4-digit serial seems to be punched over an older stamp; there is no frog. About 84 years after it was made this World War II era Germany WW2 1938 Durkopp bayonet and its original scabbard are in 100% serviceable condition still. Don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
