Original WW1 era  Imperial German Army Prussian M1873 Artillery Saber / Sabre (M73 Preußen Artilleriesäbel) manufactured in 1915 by Alexander Coppel in Solingen, Germany. Alexander Coppell is one of the oldest Prussian cutlery makers in continues operation; the company was registered in 1821.

This particular specimen was not a dress sword, but the “issued” saber intended for the frontline troops. “Issued” sabers had a heavy-duty construction, particularly the blades as they were intended to be carried in the field and actually used in combat, if needed. The blade’s spine is flat, with long deep fullers on both sides of the satin-polished “plain” blade – the “issued” sabers were never engraved.

This Germany WW1 Prussian M1873 artillery saber is used, but it’s in much better than average condition for the type. The blade is sharply stamped ALEX. COPPEL on ricasso. The blade has original edge; a few edge nicks from filed use are noted for accuracy; the tip is intact. The blade is not rusted or pitted; most of the original satin polish is intact. The saber is about 35″ / 89 cm overall; the blade is about 29-3/4″ / 75.5 cm long. Original dark-brown bakelite grip is near-excellent with no damage; original leather washer at ricasso is still present; all handle parts are tight. The blade at ricasso has numerous “Prussian crown” inspection stamps; crowned initial with the two-digit date code “15” on the spine indicates 1915 manufacture date. The remnants of the sword nut made of dark-green fabric are tied on the “knuckle duster” hand guard, but actual nut is missing. Original metal scabbard is in great condition and fits the saber perfectly with no play or rattle. This scare original WW1 era Prussian Artillery Sabre specimen is in excellent overall condition, considering the age. You will not be disappointed!

This attractive Germany WW1 Prussian M1873 artillery saber and its original iron scabbard have not been cleaned or tampered with in any way, this original WW1 era artillery saber set is in 100% original “as is” condition. These are the actual photos; spent brass is not included with the lot 😉
