Original Germany WW1 Nahkampfmesser fighting knife Kampfmesser dagger and metal scabbard in excellent overall condition. Rare this nice!
Original WW1 era German Army fighting dagger in hard to find top-shape condition. Classic circa 1915-1916 Nahkampfmesser (close combat knife) or Kampfmesser trench knife with the coffin-shaped handle, flat iron guard, wood handle scales and original metal scabbard. In some literature this type is referenced as German Ypres Trench Knife.
This fighting knife is in much better than average condition with no dings or edge nicks on the blade. Full-tang construction; the dagger it is about 10-3/4” / 27.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5-7/8” / 15 cm. Ricasso is struck with the “fraktur” inspector’s acceptance stamp – a small imperial crown on one side; no other markings on the blade. The blade is very sharp still; needle-like tip is intact. In spite of the advanced age original wood handle scales are excellent with no chips or cracks; all parts are solid with no loose or moving parts. Original metal scabbard with leather belt hanger is near-perfect, considering the age. About 90% of the original black finish remaining; the leather is still soft and supple.
After 100 plus years this Germany WW1 Nahkampfmesser fighting knife Kampfmesser dagger with original scabbard is in 100% serviceable condition even now. Excellent overall condition and SUPER rare as such these days – today most of the surviving WW1 era German Nahkampfmesser fighting knives are in private collections & rarely come up for sale.
