Description

Germany 1769 Puma Commemorative Knife model with sambar stag handle scales, gold-filled blade, original wood presentation case and serial-numbered COA. Made circa 1973; SN 1201, only 1769 were made; VERY rare type.

Rare limited edition “The Puma Commemorative Knife” model folding Hunter with genuine India stag handle scales, elaborately etched and gold-filled blade and original wood presentation case w matching serial COA; unused condition. Puma came up with these gorgeous hand-finished folders in the early 1970th in time for the 200-year Puma anniversary. “The Puma Commemorative Knife” was first advertized in Puma’s 1973 catalog. This 1970th commemorative model was a one-off; there is no typical control number anywhere on this knife. Only 1769 serial-numbered “commemoratives” were made in total; this specimen has serial number 1201 engraved and gold-filled on the blade

The overall quality of this knife is excellent – to be expected from Puma for such a grand occasion.  Genuine India sambar stag handle scales ane nicely fitted flush with engraved bolsters. The knife is about 8-3/4” / 22.2 cm overall fully opened; mirror-polished and etched blade with gold-filled letters and dates is about 3-3/4″ / 9.5 cm long. Sambar stag handle scales provide a very positive and comfortable grip, in case you decide to take the knife out of the box and use it as intended. All handle parts are tight with no play. The blade’s edge is factory-original; it is RAZOR-sharp; the tip is intact. This Germany 1769 Puma Commemorative Knife is in excellent condition, the original wood presentation box with matching COA is in great condition as well, considering the age. A couple of bronze leaf inlays on the top lid are sticking out; could be glued back on, I guess.

I recently purchased several vintage knives from a family of a long-time knife collector. I addition to a couple of vintage Puma, Case XX, and Remington knives, I have several pre-WW2 American blades, as well as WW2 era fighting daggers and WW1 trench knives available for sale – please take a look in our Militaria section.  This vintage PUMA Germany Bayernmesser hunting knife has not been cleaned or tampered with in any way – VERY rare type in any shape or form these days. The knife is in 100% original “as is” condition; these are the actual photos.
