GERBER model C375 Hunter-Skinner knife, exotic African ebony wood handle, original sheath. Vintage Al Mar Custom Series design manufactured 1975-1976. Rare NIB, excellent overall condition.

Vintage hard to find Gerber Legendary Blades custom series model C375 Hunter-Skinner hand-finished circa 1975-1976 at the Gerber factory in Portland, Oregon, USA. The letter C in the model number stands for Custom; there were a total of six blade designs in the 1970th “C” series.  According to the Levine’s Guide to Knives and Their Values, the “C” series were designed by late Al Mar during his short stint as a cutlery designer at Gerber. Soon thereafter Al went on to establish his legendary Al Mar Knives company based in Oregon, producing many remarkably practical and high quality designs.

The following excerpt is from Gerber’s contemporary sales brochure: Custom designed to meet the rugged demands of today’s outdoorsman, these superb cutting tools blend ultramodern, functional design, and skilled Gerber craftsmanship and manufacturing techniques. Extra-strong blades are precision ground to a razor sharp, double-wedge shape and boast a super-hardness of Rockwell C60-62. Special industrial hard-chrome plating keeps these high speed tool steel blades bright and stainless through the demanding use for which this series was designed.

The knife is unused; original factory edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. M2 alloy high-speed tool grade steel blade is mirror-polished; the blade is in perfect shape. Exotic African ebony wood handle with red-and-white spacers and  a solid bronze guard; all parts are tight with no play. The knife is about 8-5/8″ / 22 cm overall; the blade is about 3-3/4″ / 9.5 cm long. Original model C375 leather sheath and correctly-labeled original retail box are included. This pretty blade would set you back a whooping $36.50 in 1975 – quite a bit of money back then.  The box is in great condition, considering the age; a few typical scuff marks here and there are noted for accuracy.

Very attractive and scarce Gerber “oldie” – this GERBER model C375 Hunter-Skinner knife with exotic African ebony wood handle is VERY harder to find in unused condition AND with original retail packaging included; this knife will make a great addition to any collection.
