Rare France WW1 LE VENGEUR trench knife BOURGADE fighting dagger; handle is tight with no loose parts, very good overall condition, considering the age.
Original WW1 era French Army model M1916 LE VENGEUR trench knife (the Avenger) manufactured by BOURGADE. Classic French fighting knife with hardwood handle and extra-wide iron guard. Better than average condition for the type – these high-carbon blades were prone to corrosion. The dagger it is about 10-15/16” / 27.8 cm overall; the blade is about 6-1/2” / 16.5 cm; ricasso is stamped with the oriental man’s profile with BOURGADE name in a form of a braded hair. The blade is VERY sharp still; the very end of the tip is damaged; minor surface rust at the tip is noted for accuracy. Original redwood handle with a large round lug nut on the pommel and iron cross guard; the guard is stamped with letter B on the underside. In spite of the advanced age and obvious abuse in the field this dagger is solid with no loose or moving parts; there is no scabbard. This old timer is in 100% serviceable condition still, even after 100+ years.
