Early WW2 CASE TESTED XX Pig Sticker dagger jigged bone handle American fighting knife with original CASE XX leather sheath. RARE TYPE
Rare vintage Case’s Tested XX Hunter – full-tang “pig sticker” dagger with jigged bone handle scales and original CASES SPORTSMAN sheath. Made by W.R. Case Cutlery circa 1905-1914 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. This type was popular with the American GIs and “pig stickers” were used extensively as fighting knives in WW1, as well as in WW2. This type is VERY hard to find these days – Case ceased the use of time-consuming jigged bone handles during the war; all later “pig stickers” had wood handles to expedite the wartime production. This type is illustrated on page 94 of the KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W. Silvey – a well-established expert an author of many books on the subject of US military edged weapons (see the page’s photo attached).
This Case Tested XX dagger is about 9-1/4” / 23.5 cm overall; the blade is about 5-1/4″ / 13.4 cm long. Very attractive jigged green bone handle scales with bronze pins; the handle is tight with no play. Looks like the blade has been polished and professionally re-blued. The edge is razor-sharp; the tip is intact. Original super-embossed “Stag head” leather sheath is in fine overall condition, considering the age. There are a couple of cracks on the leather; the front panel has an “eye” carved into it. This pre-WW1 “pig sticker” dagger type is rare in any shape or form these days; don’t miss your chance to add it to your collection!
This early CASE TESTED XX Pig Sticker fighting dagger jigged bone handle type is VERY rare these days, especially with the original CASES SPORTSMAN sheath included. Great WW1-WW2 era “non-regulation” US fighting knife with a lot of character; you will not be disappointed!
